well first, create a folder then put 3 text files named at your choice in that folder...and copy the three codes on the three files...

in conky manager, clik on theme folder and go where your new conky is and select the 3 files

Thanks ... I see its Ubuntu - launchpad PPA now I know why I don't use it. :D

I use YAD [zenity] and bash scripts to do basically the same thing - other than build the conky:

Move the conky - easy: [Alt]+left click+hold and drag moves the conky:

You can edit position via Conky manager...

select the page you want to move then click the edit widget tab (english key image)....do small adjust at a time ...try one setting, then another

Please, no 'sir' - just another conky nut. If you want first name basis call me Sector or S11 :D

There's more, it works the same as any other open app in a window:
  1. [Alt]+[right-click-hold] - near the centre of a window (conky) - drag to move
  2. [Alt]+[right-click-hold] - near the edge|corner of a window (conky) - drag to re-size
  3. [Alt]+[left-click-hold] - anywhere in a window (conky) - drag to move

Not sure it's "showing off" - as there's no fancy wallpaper to move a conky into the center of the screen so you don't ever get to see it if you actually USE your computer...

Instead, I throw it all to the RIGHT and use the other 80%+ of the screen to actually get stuff done AND be able to see my conky info. I am very dependant on the calendar(s) especially!

This is the right-side of my 1920x1080 desktop:

The scripts use clock_rings.lua (which I slightly edited to reduce/eliminate the memory leak). Needed to compress due to forum issues with .lua files. Here that is:
clock_rings.lua.tar.gz
lua script to get rings in conky. Patched for memory leak
(2.81 KiB) Downloaded 42 times

I used to have the "anowplaying.py" rigged for clementine (complete with blank cover.jpg when nothing was playing), but I moved to gmusicbrowser and use that programs overlay controls (much better, once one figures it all out). I have this on a couple of desktops and a laptop, so tweaking the offsets to get the rings' texts to line up is usually needed.

Finally, just a reminder this setup is completely FUNCTION over FORM. No fancy graphics that are hidden with the first window open, etc. In fact, when I play WOW (under Wine) I have it take up all of the screen BUT the conky area, and remove the titlebar/borders/etc. (love KDE) so it's like a "full screen" but only 80% and I can still have some desktop:
Mint-KDE-WoW_screenshot.jpg
running WOW borderless & w/o system interrupts. Quasi-full screen!

This is my very basic conky

It fits well on a 15 inch screen - the elements were not chosen for decorations. I only put in what I needed.

Code is well commented with specifics - hddtemp, partition info etc...

This is a good starting point conky

Code: Select all

#Some code borrowed from several sources
#Inspiration and starter code was taken from Partition Magic live CD

# Conky forked to background
background yes

# Print everything to stdout?
# out_to_console no

# Print everything to console?

# Update interval in seconds

# This is the number of times Conky will update before quitting.
# Set to zero to run forever.
total_run_times 0

#temperature default
temperature_unit fahrenheit

# Create own window instead of using desktop (required in nautilus)
own_window yes

# If own_window is yes, you may use type normal, desktop or override
own_window_type normal

# Use pseudo transparency with own_window?
own_window_transparent yes

# If own_window_transparent is set to no, you can set the background colour here
own_window_colour black

# If own_window is yes, these window manager hints may be used
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
#own_window_hints below,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

# Needed for transparent
own_window_argb_visual yes
own_window_argb_value 255

# Use double buffering (reduces flicker, may not work for everyone)
double_buffer yes

# Minimum size of text area
minimum_size 210 5

# Draw shades?
draw_shades no

# Draw outlines?
draw_outline no

# Draw borders around text
draw_borders no

# Draw borders around graphs
draw_graph_borders yes

# Stippled borders?
stippled_borders 4

# border margins
border_inner_margin 4

# border width

#alignment bottom_left
#alignment bottom_right

# Gap between borders of screen and text
# same thing as passing -x at command line
# this setup avoids the cashew
gap_x 45
gap_y 20

# Subtract file system buffers from used memory?
no_buffers yes

# set to yes if you want all text to be in uppercase
uppercase no

I like the use-all-of-your-desktop-or-none-of-it approach ;)
Similar to what I did years ago
If you want the things you've never had,
You have to do things you've never done.
