I don't think it is made for me either, but always nice to play with in a VM!
What is the procedure to set this up? Install Mint 20 and then change windows manager or do i have to install another linux version?

Good idea. VMs are great for experimentation. I'd suggest opening a terminal, then running sudo apt-get install i3 to install i3WM's meta-package, which brings in i3WM and some other related stuff you might want. Keep in mind that it's just the window manager (and associated tools), not a desktop manager, file manager, compositor, etc. Oh, and you can install i3WM in an existing distribution, like Linux Mint. You'll probably need to switch to the i3WM session on the login screen.

Thanx, i will certainly try it out! Maybe it's something for my NAS server with Debian server and OMV?

I have no experience with that window manager, but from what i understand it is not using X.. so you use the 'output to console' setting i suspect?

dwm, openbox, and i3wm: all (3) window managers are x based.

FWIW I have all three window managers (openbox, dwm, i3wm with Conkies) running in a single user space on a machine build using Cinnamon Mint 21.

I suspect, even though there's obvious ways to use conky as we know it, there is also the conky-cli option. I'm sure you can dress up that status bar with anything or the possibilities are probably endless. (I would mention, well I didn't check it on Mint 21, but at least prior to that the conky packages have a specific | between the gui and cli version, since with both the binary is named conky, so to get them both you would install cli first, that's probably the easiest, then you can just rename the single binary, and then work out installing the typical conky package, this way you don't get the conflict where one removes the other or vice-versa.)

I've never heard of i3WM-specific Conky configurations. From my dabbling with Conky in i3WM, it refused to work properly. Maybe there's a way to get it to work, but I'm not too fussed with it. I prefer things to be lightweight. If I wanted stats, I'd enable a bar or two.

Depending on the configuration, it can be a bit on the chunky side, compared to a lightweight i3WM setup, though. I do like Conky, don't get me wrong; I used it for a couple of years when I first got into Linux (with XFCE), but nowadays I just prefer to keep things fairly minimalistic and simple.
