<SOLVED>Hey! is it ok to get answers if I can't get a homework done?

Hello everybody, I changed forums because well... I guess I was to green, but I was wondering if I can ask questions and sometimes get answers to my bash scripting because the way I learn is if I can't find the answer is copy and cut out and understand how everything works, then I understand... would it be ok to do that? or will it anger people like it did on another forum, if so, i'll stick to the frenchies then.. sorry if it ''may sound stupid to anyone") as a question, I do apologize again, I don't mean to be annoying, hopefully I am welcomed here, and yes I read the rules! (i'm a bit sensitive to criticism) :S.

We're not exactly a homework forum, but if it's something we know how to help with I'm sure someone will step up.
That being said, make sure you have your teacher's permission to get online help first.

People don't read books until they find answers, that's a world that is dead and gone.

They use the internet to get the solution ASAP, even if it involves talking to random people online.

Posting your homework here is kind of like training for the real world.

I don't want to go back there ... But Habitual, that is how I learn, my math problems always had answers in the end of the book, then I would try and solve the problem until I had the right answer and in the process I learned, voila! I finally understood the problem, or found other ways to solve the problem, I have super good memory and thanks to it, this memory helps me rewrite the script and then understand what i'm I doing, ( don't punch me please ). But thanks for the guides they help .

Writing the script as you refer to it could be written and should be written as pseudo-code,
much like a recipe.

Short steps in English (or native French?) that explain the problem is oh-so-easy steps.
Think of pseudo-code as a "recipe".
However, if we had to learn how to mill flour each time we wanted to make Chocolate Chip cookies, we'd never have cookies.

Well, until now and after reading the thread on the other forum, this is not the case.

Programming is easy: you type something, you run it, and you immediately see if the result is ok or not. Trial and error.
Go piece by piece. Display everything. Check every steps. Don't move to the next step until the current one is working.

I've always found, especially with computers, it helps to hack around and figure things out more than having somebody just give you the answer. If you use IRC, you can get help in real time (Freenode has a few rooms for bash, linux, & general programming). You may want to tell them you are a student and that you don't want the answer, just hints & nudges in the right direction. When you figure it out, the concept seems to stick with you much longer, at least in my experience with programming. One good thing is that since bash & CLI are tied to Linux & FOSS, there are many free manuals & tutorials.

Not exactly an answer to your post, but I suggest you get yourself a copy of Learning the Bash Shell, O'Reilly. Even an old edition will do, and you can find them used online for a few bucks.
