You can also install mate-themes from the offical repository

mate-themes

Official themes for the MATE desktop

This package contains the official desktop themes of the MATE desktop
environment.

The themes provided for the MATE desktop partially resemble themes that
are well known from GNOMEv2 desktops. However, the MATE team also prepared
some new themes esp. for MATE (Menta, GreenLaguna, TraditionalGreen,
TraditionalOk, and BlackMate)..

Alright, for anybody who wants to know how to do this, here are the steps :
1. install "mate-dock-applet" using this command on the terminal :

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mate-dock-applet
2. unlock the Window List Applet (right click the handle then uncheck lock to panel) and remove the applet, then add in the new dock applet, now do the following :
change to subway, for a more cinnamon like look, and change to solid fill
lock the dock applet
3. install compiz (idk if in latest 20.3) :

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install compiz
enable some animations using the graphical config manager, then add this to startup :

Code: Select all

compiz --replace
4. right click the mint menu and go to preferences, then tick everything out except for menu icon, now click on the linux mint logo icon and change it to something like the cinnamon one.
5. resize the panel to something bigger, now boom! you have my setup!
EDIT : DOOM Running on it! :

Nice, but beware of Compiz. It's digital garbage: unstable and unreliable since its inception....

popinin wrote: Tue Jun 28, 2022 5:27 am It s funny, your Windows icon has some other shape.
there is no windows icon, that is the application launcher ;)

the one he has is the old mint logo from a few years back. it matches the forum's which has not been updated yet unlike the main website
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

1. install "mate-dock-applet" using this command on the terminal :
I fail to see the point of that dock, I mean it "looks" just like you added some launchers to the existing panel ?

3. install compiz (idk if in latest 20.3) :
Unnecessary as Compiz IS installed by default in MATE.
then add this to startup : compiz --replace
Also unnecessary as that can be done with one click in the Desktop Setting app, as show in my screenshot.
also sorry for the screenshot app being open, some weird bug
That is weird, I've never seen that before, and I have taken a lot of screenshots.
