Thanks! The Equinox theme seems to look better on GNOME than KDE, believe it or not! Just as well, because I gave up on the KDE version of Linux Mint; the last straw was no sound on YouTube.

This is my new one, on LMDE, with an added Screenlet solely for temperature, because I can't seem to work out how to add that into Conky.

Thanks, glad you like it. Here's the wallpaper source. Lots of other anime and game related wallpapers can be found there. Be warned - some images may be NSFW.

thnx, noticed that ubuntu 10.10 seems to use more memory than 10.04, ive 4gb of ram but doesnt mean i dont like to keep things lightweight. For example the ubuntu SSO(single sign on) process seems to use 20mb even though im not using ubuntu one or anything.
Think i might go back to mint 9 til mint 10 comes out or try mint debian as my main OS.

As im going to be running openbox on my netbook, and wanted to see what running a light desktop with no compiz is like, i decided to customize my crunchbang installed to my memory stick. This was a quick 30-min customize.
Theme: Onyx
Compositing manager: cairo-compmgr
Background: Into Space (i googled for minimalistic blue wallpapers, from the 70+ minimal wallpapers site, scroll down)
Conky: I took my current mint conky and trimmed it down a bit

mintmaniac2, your desktop is proof positive that you don't have to use compiz to have a cool looking desktop. :) Your conky setup looks really good too! Nice work!

Thanks, exploder and oscar799. I was just experimenting and have now realized that I only use compiz because it's the de facto standard, nothing else, apart from the cube.

ive also noticed this - main calprut is the compiz settings - in lm9 when all fancy desktop settings are enabled, mine jumps up to 400 - 500 mb. with fresh install and all settings on default (no compiz settings) it starts up at around 180mb?

Here is my 2c.
i prefer the top left applications menu and (i guess all down to using ubuntu in the past so much) also prefer the time at the top right too.
