With the approach of fall, a new desktop is heralded in.

Since I got the message "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.", I'm posting links:

http://i36.tinypic.com/2ds4nrb.png (Regular)

http://i35.tinypic.com/2qcmlbb.png (With a couple apps running)

As before, the numbered stars are actually folders, each one mounted to a different partition.

I used to scoff at the idea of two panels, but now I see a clear advantage. The lower panel is for apps (docks look pretty but are memory hogs, in my experience) and the upper panel is for windows. Most window clicking is done on top (minimizing, closing, moving, going to Bookmarks, etc.) so it made sense to have it on top, whereas apps are clicked on less often, so they went on the bottom. The advantage of two panels, as I see it, is I can have multiple windows open without it getting too crowded.

This is my new desktop look, i decided to recompile and install nautilus to have transparency for Murrina themes, and some other apps.
Image

And this is what it looks like with the file browser open, notice how the top of the window is semi transparent.
Image
The theme itself is just a normal murrine theme with the colors altered, the icons are oxygen-refit green version, the emerald theme is custom made by me, as is the awn theme. the wallpaper is Shining Mint made by me :D

Although it was hard to let go of the calming blue crickets desktop of August, it's almost September and time for a change.

Wallpaper "Mint Sphere" by Foomandoorian (sp? sorry if I botched it) H20-gtk2-default theme, Emerald colour scheme. Matrix-Green skin for Gkrellm. Bundled Sawasdee font.

By itself because it's just soooooooo pretty:

With some apps open, showing Trail-Focus Windows transparency and taskbar transparency:

The dock is AWN. I customized the the color of the dock to match the green if the icons. :D

It would really help if images in this thread (and elsewhere on the forum) were optimized for the web. As is, it's nearly impossible to load on dialup. Too bad. I'd like to have a look. :(

err..How do you "optimize" an image for the web? :?

In Photoshop go to File > Save for Web. Thank heavens for Wine! Haven't figured out quite how to do that in Gimp yet. Here's an optimized version of your desktop image posted on August 21:

Image

Your image - 1.3 MB
Optimized - 45.3 KB

You can do the math . . . ;)

It just saved it as a jpg instead of a png.
Probably between 75% to 80% quality.
