I guess this is as good a place as any for my first post :)

Clean

Cluttered - Like normal

Hope this works, and a big Hello to everyone. I've been a Linux & BSD enthusiast since I got sick of Win95 crashing on me and I've never looked back. Mint is by far my favorite Distro, and this community has impressed me as well. Looking forward to contributing here when I can.

I'm running a sort of hybridized Linux Mint 4.0 + Ubuntu Hardy Heron that I dub Mint 4.5. I've back-ported or implemented many features from Hardy to my Mint desktop, including the new Evolution 2.22, World Clock applet, latest Clearlooks engine & themes, Xserver-xcb, latest Compiz-Fusion, Vinagre, Rhythmbox, and did I mention even Policykit and the latest Gnome 2.22? And many many more. :-) There's more in it that's NOT Mint 4. Nevertheless, in spite of the cutting edge software I do prefer a clean, elegant look for my Mint.

Tofucifer,
Welcome to Mint, and a great first post. One word on the desktop and theme - WOW! This is the theme I've been thinking about ever since I saw the dark theme of Debian Elive E17 desktop. However, my art skills on the computer being what they are (enough said). Really like it. Was this your own creation? And can I use it?
Again welcome.

Very nice red-e-made. The star idea is interesting.

Here's mine:

I'm using Beryl, but with dual screens via Xinerama making an effective resolution of 2560x1024, the proper cube is impossible. No matter. It's still insanely convenient to rotate from desktop to desktop or to choose a window from the corner display. I am also using VMWare to administer a remote Windows server. The whole setup is just absolutely wonderful. Long live Linux Mint!

red-e-made, what's that dock you use on the right side of your screen?

And cmost, how did you change "daryna" to say "system menu"?

It's Cairo Dock. It's very flexible and a lot of fun to use.

And thanks, newW2 :) I like working from my desktop, but don't like the default folder icons. Changing them to stars - which blends in the background better - seemed like the best option.

newW2,
Sorry it took a bit to get back to the forum. I'm at work right now, I'll post the specifics when I get back to my home this afternoon. Glad you like the desktop.

**** Okay back in geek paradise****

background is "0354_pier" from interfacelift.com
icons are "Black-White 2 style" from gnome-look.org
GTK theme is "SlicknesS" from gnome-look.org
default font is LucidaMac OSX font (thanks for the tip ede)
emerald theme is "SlicknesS" also from gnome-look.org
gdesklets added to session startup with "GoodWeather" as the only applet
Avant window navigator installed and running on startup with "3D look" "Spotlight" and "Rotation" selected. I then built custom app launchers utilizing the BW2 Style icons so everything matches.
default Darnya panel switched to top of screen.

**** I now return you to checking out everyones hard work :) ****
