after liking paulo.delavega's wingpanel-like awn so much yesterday I just had to copy it. This beind a desktop thread I give you a screenshot of me having opened a screenshot in which you can see a little of the desktop too :D (nothing spectacular though - almost unmodified conky-colors created conky etc)
I wonder how long it will take this time until I miss the uncompromising snappiness of metacity on ldme and trash all the compiz stuff :)

thanks - i really wish the gnome-panel could do something like this. it really is ideal as far as usability goes.
you have everything handy just as in the the standard two-panel-layout but it doesn't take up any screeen real-estate at all so it's like a one panel setup with my beloved old-fashioned taskbar at the bottom but all the luxury of the default top bar :)
edit: now all i need is a version of nautilus elementary that doesn't want me to pull in dependencies from experimental in order to be installed or built.

yeah i was aware of that - it's just that a. i wanted launcehrs etc to the left and other stuff to the right and b. i don't like gconf fiddling all that much because if i want to undo it a yer from now i probably forget what I was doing :D
I'lll jsut try to deactive/tune/fiddle with/ a lot of compi stuff and see if i can't get used to it and meanwhile stick with awn.

(i DO like the lucido look i have to admit)

That's why I use Gnote (Tomboy clone) to track my config changes, a lack of memory - and not RAM.

I am leaning towards minimalism.
I have to LIVE in a shell for cloud admin work, so everything gets relegated to "GET OUT OF THE WAY OF MY SHELL!"

hrm why not make a competition out of it - the #2 distro on distrowatch should atract enough people who can make themes or at least have interesting ideas about combining/changing their favoritews......

the winner gets a mint t-shirt or something
