All Desktop Screenshots - October 2013

Post by vrkalak »

REMINDER: from the Forum Staff:

Please continue to use clickable-thumbnails linking to the larger image -- to help those with slower connections.

Many image-hosting sites will automatically generate 'clickable-thumbnails' for you, as well.

An example of the BBC code needed is below.

Code: Select all

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The forum now has an option to resize images to 320x240 pixels using "rimg" tags.
This gives a large enough image to display clearly but doesn't cause a problem for those with slow connections
You can insert a pair of such tags with the "rimg" button, which sits rightmost on the row of buttons above the text field where you type your message.

Upload your image to an image hosting site then paste the URL of the "Direct" or "Download Image" link between the rimg tags.

Code: Select all

[rimg]http://link.to.your.image[/rimg]
This posts on the forum a 320x240 pixel clickable image which links to your original-sized image.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Thank you - for your continued support of LinuxMint.

:?: Not to sound pedantic, But ain't most of you posting in the wrong forum..I mean I know that I theme my system to look quite a bit like Os X, But I ain't Posting screenshots from other Distro's. Not to be rude, but I know they have their own forums, and I bet that they would be better suited to your posts.

Look I know we are one big community and all that. I am glad that there is a whole world of Distro flavors in the Linux/Open Source/Gnu Universe. I started with Redhat 7, Moved to Puppy Linux, then switched to Linux Mint 9. Now I am On LM14 Cinnamon. I don't Post on their Forums though, And certainly not with what amounts to Advertisements for other Distro's. :?

The Guys who make Linux Mint do alot of hard work. They Make Several Great Flavors of Linux Mint to suit Most tastes (well maybe not my tastes, not in themes anyway  ) . What they don't need is people posting adverts for other systems. It would be like sitting down to have a big Mac at McDonald's and having someone come up asking to give you Adverts to Burger King. I bet that the Staff Might not take it so well, And Certainly not as well as the mods here have. And i bet you would get quite a few snickers  from the customers as well.

Just noticed that one such post was actually by one of the Moderators  scratch that several Moderators
And I certainly don't wanna get Blasted into Atoms.

So Please just take my comments as a suggestion, not as a flat out deceleration of War or anything.

I believe this was discussed before and it was decided that all forms of linux desktops were welcome.
As to the SolydXK distro. It is a off-shoot of the Mint family LMDE. As Mint couldn't keep up with doing so many flavors so

http://solydxk.com/about/solydxk/
You find SolydXK’s roots in another great distribution: Linux Mint.

There were two distributions which I liked very much: Linux Mint KDE and Linux Mint Debian Edition. There were once rumors that the two would merge, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. So, I decided to make my own distribution. First as a tutorial in the forum, but later it became known as “The unofficial LMDE KDE”. When Linux Mint dropped their LMDE Xfce edition, I started that one from scratch and “The unofficial LMDE Xfce” was born.

Both these editions were mainly created with the help of the community. Without them they simply wouldn’t exist. Especially with the Xfce edition where the community decided which software was to be included and which software not. So, these distributions are really community driven.

When it became clear that the unofficial editions were not going to become official I decided to take the next step and let these great distributions stand on their own two feet and the unofficials got their proper names: SolydX and SolydK.

SolydXK will not forget it’s roots. SolydXK and Linux Mint closely work together to make our distributions even better.

Schoelje,

So it is a part of the Mint family and Mint is recognized for it's hard work from the SolydXK team.

well then as I Didn't know of this Decision, I withdraw my comments.

As to Solydk/x: didn't know it was a derivative, thereby I suppose my post is in fact, Moot.

This is why I almost never post (except wallpapers and even then rarely), Almost always late to the party

@Orbmiser
Nice screenshot. You don't by chance have a link to the wallpaper do you?

On the subject of screenshots from other distros, I don't see why it is a problem. Its great to get ideas from some of the stuff you see people doing with their desktops regardless of the distro they came from.
When I give opinions, they are my own. Not necessarily those of any other Linux Mint developer or the Linux Mint project as a whole.

Sorry it was a google search "Nasa or Space Wallpaper dual displays" kind of thing.
And using kde had to crop the 3360x1050 into 2 1680x1050 wallpapers.

If interested in the one large or the halves send me a PM with your email and can send them to you.

Thanks for the info. I will try a similar search and see what I can turn up. I use 2 1920 wide monitors so I need to find something to fit those.

Sweet, vrkalak.

With the release of Cinnamon 2, I decided to get a small taste of what Mint 16 Petra might be like. I installed Ubuntu 13.10, installed Cinnamon 2, and completely removed Unity/ubuntu-desktop so that it was basically Ubuntu base only with Cinnamon DE. I have to say Cinnamon 2 is smooth and purrs like a kitten on my HP laptop. Here's a look at the result so far.
