All Desktop Screenshots for 2017

Post by vrkalak »

REMINDER: from the Forum Staff:

Please continue to use clickable-thumbnails linking to the larger image -- to help those with slower connections.

Many image-hosting sites will automatically generate 'clickable-thumbnails' for you, as well.

An example of the BBC code needed is below.

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The forum now has an option to resize images to 320x240 pixels using "rimg" tags.
This gives a large enough image to display clearly but doesn't cause a problem for those with slow connections
You can insert a pair of such tags with the "rimg" button, which sits rightmost on the row of buttons above the text field where you type your message.

Upload your image to an image hosting site then paste the URL of the "Direct" or "Download Image" link between the rimg tags.

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

 [rimg]http://link.to.your.image[/rimg]
This posts on the forum a 320x240 pixel clickable image which links to your original-sized image.

I like my desktop background to change as a slide show. I have many different photos. Some I've taken myself, some I've downloaded. It's difficult for me to stick with one background photo because I like the variety of having different backgrounds.

Here's my latest slide show group.

Here's one photo from the group.

Since this laptop has a smallish 1280x800 screen, I have to resize the backgrounds to fit the screen properly but that small step is worth it.

Here is mine after hours of tinkering
Some more details:
 • Don't really like putting the panel on the top, but I have the window title bars removed when maximized (by editing the metacity theme file: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/5764). The window buttons are more natural for me to be put at the top
 • The window buttons are from the applet "Window Buttons with Title" (https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/184). Edited the theme files of the applet so it matches the theme of whole desktop. Although there is an option to hide the applet when a window is maximized, it doesn't work consistently so I just keep them always here.
 • Don't like the workspace switcher here. However without it I can't tell which workspace I am in as all workspaces look the same
 • Conky Manager widget: http://speedracker.deviantart.com/art/S ... -506340482. Edited to suit my needs
 • I forgot where I got the wallpaper from. If you need I can send you the wallpaper or use google image search
 • You can see that I'm still not 100% satisfied with this setup, so the tinkering journey continues...

Old beast still goin' strong! I think the Pentium D was the first true dual core for the desktop . . or no ?
I still have that irascible indicator plugin problem with my dark theme . . :x

PS: Notice the nvidia driver version . . haha, some of us old farts stay patient when we see important updates come down the line, within a few days there were multiple posts about problems with the new drivers, and the headaches to revert back to the working version. Not me, nice 'n' slow , in fact freeze right there !

A heron taking off in the park at the end of my street. I had to wait for almost an hour to take this picture.

Slight update, new theme, a customised OSX-Arc-Darker for GTK and Cinnamon, rest are as listed in the terminal.
Switched out the clock and weather desklets for Conky and changed the background.

Hannnnggg onnn... I notice a distro switch! Care to share the reason? Or just different computers?

Well, me too. My desktop wallpaper is one of the standard Mint ones, but it's so beautiful I had to use it. I love Scandinavian landscapes.

Would be nice to know some details about desktops (theme, icons, fonts, conky, etc.). Moreover would be interesting to discuss about the pros/cons of some arrangements. For example, I feel that the bar on the top is problematic/confusing because it's on top of the window top bar of the programs (two bars one above the other); it's possible to hide it, but even so... On my main PC desktop (Cinnamon) I have the bar in the default place (bottom) and a Plank on the top. I will post my desktop later because I'm in another PC now. :)
