Your screenshot is very interesting: The blue of your planet ball is so intense and overdriven on the old MacBook with Mint Rosa, that it literally hurts.
With the new laptop, much higher resolution and color corrected under Windows 10, it looks very intense but acceptable.
It's a NASA pic from their Jupiter/Juno collection - with my first very first spacecraft added as a watermark for nostalgia purposes .... :)

Oh, thank you. Yeah, I know them. It's always a good source for wacky pictures. Your spaceship: 2D or 3D?

So when I was a kid I spent about 4 years immersed in the original 1984 game Elite - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_(video_game)

A few years ago I discovered a remake of the original - Oolite - http://www.oolite.org/ and lost another couple of years...

The ship is the Cobra Mark 3 from the latter, but that was also the default player ship in the original game.

Haha! very spacious...

But I never watch or download games again. Last spring the Notre-Dame was on fire. Ubisoft then offered their murderer game as free software for download. It would have interested me because of the virtual 3D representation of the Notre-Dame. But also such a shit. Loading and registering data for hours - the game never ran...

Fascinating.
Do you know a method how to use a Linux with Flux on a high resolution monitor @ 3000 x 2000?
That would make for a super-fast virtual system.

By the way, Rosa the Good is also decidedly frugal. - Well, was.

Code: Select all

xrandr --output (display) --mode 3000x2000
To get display..

So - I think the settings are correct and correlate to the available space given by Windows.
My question was more system specific - I don't think MATE or Cinnamon desktops are the best (at Linux Mint OS) for experimenting with a minimal FLUX desktop.
At example, Void seems very minimalistic, but at the moment only as a playground for ants...

Yup. That starts out as about 104MB, it went up after I ran some stuff; It's < 100MB if I use the nouveau video driver.

I don't know anything about running fluxbox on a high-res display other than you can control the size of just about everything it displays (text, borders, titles, ...) FB uses less memory than a terminal.

Say, the settings are quartered to 1500 x 880 --- which, in your opinion would be the best System to start with FLUX?

You mean desktop (lxde!) or distro (dunno!). Adding it to an xfce install (and similar, I would guess) I also install xsettingd which reads desktop settings from ~/.xsettingsd otherwise some programs get the wrong themes, fonts, etc.

Well yes - I meant both. So I will play around with LXDE. Thanks.

It's like xfce but better; antix distro comes with fluxbox, which is rare, plus iceWm and something else...you can switch window managers without logging out:

Edit: AFAIK, "they" are converting lxde to lxqt ... and lxde might not be around in the future..?

Fine, then I'll get into the FLUX time machine soon. I just remembered, I haven't played with GNUstep for a long time.

Hi trytip. I see you're using an AMD Ryzen 3 2200 G. Can you tell me on which Motherboard? Here in the Mint Forums there was a lot of inconsistency about these Ryzen CPU'S. My idea would be a DIY in an old Macintosh case from 1984...

GA-A320M-S2H (rev. 1.x) but it has been giving me a bad time dual booting with uefi win10 which i kept. it's basically the lower end of the high end mobos.

i'm about to update bios for it fingers crossed. it still has pretty good support even though it's an older new model, if that makes any sense. (should work with any ryzen but can't say for sure)

if i'm not back here by tomorrow this time my bios update went to the north pole
