I wonder if it can play mp4, avi and other video files as well as gifs?
I still use xwinwrap because it lets me choose just about any file and choose whether i want sound or not.
Xwinwrap doesn;t work very well with icons on the desktop. I am also wondering if it will work at all once Mint and everything else moves over to Wayland.
For now, xwinwrap lets me have pretty flexible options, like (as long as I don;t mind slowing down a bit) a different movie on each workspace. Not that I bother.
Anyway, I for one am interested to see alternatives like this 'livewallpaper-daily' idea for the day when moving to Wayland means xwinwrap is no longer available.
