Steam games not launching

[C Clambake]

I am very new to linux and trying to wean myself off of windows. I have been able to make my thru most of my issues, but I am perplexed with steam. I have downloaded games on a separate hard drive from linux boot and the hard drive is formatted in Ext4. When I launch a steam game in linux and press play it looks as though the game is going to launch than abruptly stops and the "play" button is back. Rinse and repeat.

Hope this information is helpful and what is needed and not overkill. Thank you in advance with your help. Please remember I am a novice.

try this for a start

questions i have:
- did you install dxvk?
- did you install vulkan? (make sure if graphics card is Direct x12 compatible to also tick D12 library)
- did you install libfaudio?

the synaptic package manager usually under settings in menu.

the order doesnt matter so much.

when you open synaptic package manager on the right there should be a search button

you will need to do each search individually.

then mark each. (literally says " mark for installation " )

then click on apply.

once finished close program

click on update manager and click on refresh or terminal sudo apt update

what do they do----

- libfaudio helps to provide audio to games
- dxvk provides translations to direct x
- vulkan provides certain drivers for graphics card usage


I dont guarantee this will fix it, alot depends on the games and the proton build themselves.

So I just had this issue, and am by no means an expert on the subject, but I tried installing a game locally and it launched without issue. I also have a 500GB external drive through USB that I generally use for extra stuff. It wouldn't launch any of the couple games I tried from there, but would launch fine if installed in the main system drive. No idea why, but this may help someone that knows what to look for to figure out the issue.

Sorry for the late reply cretsiah, but your suggestions worked. Had to removed previously installed games and reinstall.

Kellen, have not tried to install on main drive system since my other larger drive works.
