[Solved] I cannot manually set new icons for PlayOnLinux

Post by RytronII » Fri Aug 23, 2013 3:07 pm

Hi.

I cannot manually set new icons for PlayOnLinux {see image}. If the game installation auto sets icons, they are fine.

Any solution?

Thanks.

PlayOnLinux should automatically open a browser window to /usr/local/.share/icons
What version of PlayOnLinux are you using?

Hmm, I recommend upgrading to the newest version. PlayOnLInux 4.2.1
I have a feeling that bug is fixed

Dang!
Did you re-install the game?

Post the debug output so we can see what going on in the background.
Make sure to post it in the

Code: Select all

tags because output can be huge

Sorry for late reply. I did not reinstall it. However I installed another game and it too wont allow me to add an icon. The vast majority of games generate an icon automatically.

Did the next game automatically create the shortcut for you?
Try right-clicking the shortcut in PlayOnLinux and selecting "Set the Icon"
Then browse for a proper icon if any

If a game auto creates a shortcut, the icon is set in POL list. The games that I cannot add icon to did not auto create shortcuts.

Ok, thats what I thought. I havn't messed with shortcuts much, but I've had the same problem.
Some shortcuts from a manual installation will have a generic PlayOnLinux icon.
I noticed PlayOnLinux program folder has a icones folder with icons in it
I wonder if you were to copy/past the icon you want, then right-click the shortcut, set icon, navigate to that icones folder, that might work

Cheers Booman, you did it. I dropped the icon into .PlayOnLinux/icones/32 and resized it to 32*32 and renamed it exactly the same as the list entry in POL. Also the .png file extension must be removed.

Solved!

:P

Awesome, it was just a guess, but apparently it works.
Have fun playing your games!
