Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Has anyone tried updating to the newer 325 or 330 Nvidia drivers?
I"m still on Mint 14 32-bit, but was wondering if it is time to update.
I checked my Synaptics Software Manager and 310 seems to be the only recent drivers I can install.

What I always do is run this command in a terminal:
I always install this current package since I ran into some issues with the very last driver. Especially when I'm wathing video's with Vlc, the video's play with a hiccup every 3-4 seconds. When I switched back to NVidia-current, this problem was solved.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings

So are you recommending updating in Mint 14?
I have a GeForce 550 Ti

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
I don't recommend to update, it's your own choice. You're already running Mint 14 so I assume you meant Mint 15?? And the nvidia-current driver is also available under Mint14.Booman wrote:So are you recommending updating in Mint 14?
Maybe you can install the Bumblebee driver:Booman wrote:I have a GeForce 550 Ti

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
I don't mind updating at all, but I just thought it was strange that Synaptics only shows 310 drivers and nothing newer.
I've always installed newer drivers (recommended by Steam) and never experienced problems.
I'll go ahead and try it with Terminal.
Never heard of Bumblebee, I'll check that out too.
Thanks

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Just checked the NVidia site and version 319.60 is the latest. From version 325 and up are Beta's, not really recommended...Booman wrote:I don't mind updating at all, but I just thought it was strange that Synaptics only shows 310 drivers and nothing newer.
Try if you get more luck with the Bumblebee driver!
Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Ok, I'll give it a whirl, if something breaks, then it might be time to update to Mint 15....
Or maybe Mint 16 is around the corner?

Are you sure one can use Bumblebee on a desktop? As far as I know the Bumblebee driver is for laptops with dual GPU´s.nomko wrote: Just checked the NVidia site and version 319.60 is the latest. From version 325 and up are Beta's, not really recommended...

I've been using 331 in Mint 15 amd64 for the past week or so. Zero problems so far as I can tell. Video card is a 650 Ti Boost. I added the PPA below to get it:

Did you notice any difference in performance from earlier versions?

No - but then I made no measurements either.gemini89 wrote:Did you notice any difference in performance from earlier versions?Nick Payne wrote:I've been using 331 in Mint 15 amd64 for the past week or so. Okey thanks. I updated from 319 to 331, but I can´t really say I notice any difference so far.Nick Payne wrote: No - but then I made no measurements either.

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Did you play any games that you had from the older Nvidia drivers?
Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Yes, but not so many of them. I´ve tried Metro: Last light, which is crashing with both drivers.Booman wrote:Did you play any games that you had from the older Nvidia drivers?

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Yeah that happens even in Windows. That is why I usually don't update drivers unless there is a specific fix for a game I am playing or a game that isn't working.
Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
That Metro: Last light crashes? Well I´ve played Metro 2033 in Windows and it also crashed from time to time.Booman wrote:Yeah that happens even in Windows. That is why I usually don't update drivers unless there is a specific fix for a game I am playing or a game that isn't working.

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Exactly... sometimes people make excuses to not use Linux due to crashing without doing their research.
Some games still have problems even in Windows.
I had major crashing issues with Magicka and Torchlight II in Windows multiplayer.
Eventually they were fixed, but Windows games can have a lot of bugs too.
Older games like System Shock 2 would crash every time until I found that it doesn't like to run on multiple cores.

Re: Nvidia Update 325 or 330?
Does anyone know which is the first version of the nVidia driver that supports rotating one monitor in twinview, rather than needing to make them separate X screens. Selecting nvidia-current in Mint 16 installs the 304 driver, which does not allow one monitor to be rotated unless the monitors are separate X screens.
