I reran the Passmark test after I changed my qemu settings. I now gave the VM all CPU resources and it worked well.

The last line in each section reflects the current result.

The Passmark value is: 4593.0

I downloaded and installed Passmark 9, which gave me even better results:

It turns out the Windows 10 (1803) Spectre protection security update(s) play havoc with 2D graphics performance. All other benchmarks are fine.

Here my current system specs:
i7 3930K overclocked to 4.2GHz
Nvidia GTX 970 for Windows guest
Samsung 860 EVO SATA 1TB with LVM for Windows guest
24GB memory, 16GB for Windows guest using hugetables
Linux Mint 19 with Kernel~4.15.0-32-generic x86_64 running in "performance" mode
qemu-system-x86_64 version 2.11.1
Windows 10 Pro 64bit (1803) guest
Windows Nvidia driver version: 386
MSI enabled for GTX970 (graphics and audio)

Unfortunately I can't post the screen prints here due to image size restrictions, but you can find the details here: Low 2D Graphics Benchmark with Windows 10 (1803) KVM VM.

I cannot recommend disabling Spectre protection in Windows, because of the security implications. But in some application scenarios this might be the only workaround at the moment.

New Windows 10 Passmark with Spectre disabled:
