DirectX 11 is coming to Linux

Post by Pierre » Sun Jun 28, 2015 6:40 am

well not specifically to LinuxMint, but to the wider Linux community:
The DirectX 11 support coming to CrossOver and Wine will let more Windows games 'just run' on Linux.

and if it proves to be true, it could make something of a difference to Gaming On Linux. ..

All right! I may just be able to avoid "upgrading" my last Win rig to Win 10 (and its hey-let's-keep-the-os-in-the-cloud ideology).

That's good. Although, I don't know of any windows-only games that I would want to play on Linux Mint, other than MGS5 and GTA5. Everything else, that I ever wanted has been already been ported on Linux or plays fine using Wine/Play On Linux.

I saw this as well...
I'm excited!
Here is a list of games that supports Direct X 11: Games
A lot of games on this list also support Direct X 9 and already run in PlayOnLinux (Wine)

What happened to Direct X 10?

6 months until I'll finally be able to play Command Ops 2, then. Good to hear it.

Exactly, I can't to try Just Cause 2 and Assassin's Creed III
But then again, those are DirectX 10 compatible
I'm hoping DirectX 11 includes compatibility with DirectX 10.

It would help, but I'll probably just stick with having a windows machine separate for games, since I have lots of older dos/windows games.
--and some later ones, such as Delta Force, Rogue Spear, Thief (Metal Age) and so on..
  • For applications, I use Virtualbox, and have no issues

DX11 is DX10+ basically. If you support the former you obviously support the latter. Think of DX9 - can you play games that were made long time ago when there was no DX9? Can you run them on Wine or Windows? Yes, because games made for ie. DX7 run fine on DX9.

I know, but there are a few Direct X 10 games I've been wanting to play in PlayOnLinux
The list for Direct X 12 is very small right now

I really hope that Vulkan will become way more popular than DX12.
