Cities: Skylines won't start

Post by vdeane »

Anyone here play Cities: Skylines? I have Mint 18 Cinnamon x64, just updated my Nvidia drivers when an update appeared in update manager last night, and now the game won't start. It just crashes Cinnamon (when this happens, the cursor for the game appears but nothing else except a message saying Cinnamon is in fallback mode and the desktop freezes; I have to go to another tty interface to kill the game and restart Cinnamon). Granted, it's been a while since I last played the game, so I can't be entirely certain that this is the issue (I was actually running it as a test of the driver update). Paradox support is of no help. A few other hardware/software details:
-kernel 4.4.0-21-generic
-Intel Core i5-6500 @3.20GHz x 4
-7.7 GiB RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950

HI,

please sen more information:

Code: Select all

inxi -F
Try to run is from console and send console output (if possible because of freezing)

You can try older, or newer drivers (PPA from https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers ... ubuntu/ppa).

Or try to install openbox, login to open box and run Skylines from openbox (e.g. run console and skylines from console).

OK, so I tried to run Cities: Skylines from the console but it occurred to me that I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I thought I could just type "steam" and launch the game from the library, but I guess not, since the command prompt was just waiting for my next command rather than waiting for output from steam.

EDIT: Just tried the game again, and for some reason, it actually works tonight. Weird.
