It installs, but not without errors. But then I boot up the game and get in error and the game never begins. I'm using Sonya on a Lenovo G50-45. Is my wine broken? Or do I need to get a different version of the game?
Okay, so here's how it goes. I try to install through Wine and it starts normal.

Looks to be installing perfectly. Then weird errors happen.

I click okay and the window behind it closes. Then an error.

I again click okay and it says Stardew Valley installed successfully, but I still get many errors.

https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/ ... e=59C7C1F8
After clicking through the errors, I decide to click launch anyhow. The window closes and nothing happens even when the SDV icon is on my desktop. Clicking on the icon does nothing.

I really just want to play the game. I've tried different configurations and PlayonLinux too.
Need help installing and running Stardew Valley.

xna40 may not install properly in Wine yet ... dotnet40 does not yet fully work or install on wine
you can try to install this by running
scroll down to
you can try to install this by running
winetricks

xna40
check it and hit ok. you will be met with a bunch of warnings about 64 bit and 32 bit then it will try to install. even though you may not see a progressbar it is running in the back now invisibleRe: Need help installing and running Stardew Valley.
Sadly, I did that before making this post. I still got the errors.trytip wrote:xna40 may not install properly in Wine yet ... dotnet40 does not yet fully work or install on wine

Wine is a hack that allows you to run some Windows software. Wine is not a universal panacea that allows your to run all your Windows software flawlessly on Linux.NintenAkira wrote:Is my wine broken? Or do I need to get a different version of the game?...I really just want to play the game.
As to whether you need a different version of the game, could I recommend the Linux version? Runs flawlessly because it was designed to run on Linux. If you really just want to play the game, it should be obvious that the Linux version is the easiest path.
Re: Need help installing and running Stardew Valley.
i was able to install xna40 but only after messing my .wine so if you're willing to try it seems that .dotnefx only installs partially in a windows 32bit env
first rename your .wine to .wineOLD
then run in terminal
set to Windows XP hit ok and then in terminal
then in running winetricks > Select the default wineprefix > Install a windows DLL scroll down to xna40 check it and hit ok
be patient as some programs run invisible in back downloading things to
while in winetricks hit cancel to go to previous menu to install fonts
you can also install
when all is done you can delete
first rename your .wine to .wineOLD
then run in terminal
WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine winecfg
set to Windows XP hit ok and then in terminal
then in running winetricks > Select the default wineprefix > Install a windows DLL scroll down to xna40 check it and hit ok
be patient as some programs run invisible in back downloading things to
.cache/winetricks
then runs the installer. it would be useful having a networking monitor applet in panel to see downloading progresswhile in winetricks hit cancel to go to previous menu to install fonts
corefonts
you can also install
physx
for nvidia if you have onemsxml3
msxml4
msxml6
vcrun 2003-2015
when all is done you can delete
.cache/winetricks
to save space

Re: Need help installing and running Stardew Valley.
You used GOG.com, and Stardew Valley has a Linux version on there, so you don't need Wine. You should definitely install the Linux version.
1. Click on the game in your inventory and you should have Linux in your OS list. Download the installer (it should have the sh extension).
2. Right-click the installer and click Properties. Under Permissions tab, tick "Allow executing file as program".
3. Run the file and follow the instructions.
To create a shortcut, go to the Start menu -> Games, right-click Stardew Valley and click Add to Desktop.
