usb xbox controller not detected [ SOLVED ]

I'm using mint 18.3 , and plug my controller but nothing happens , already did " sudo apt-get install xboxdrv " but nothing , so in desperation i did " sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:rael-gc/ubuntu-xboxdrv" follow by " sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-xboxdrv " ( which maybe i should not have ); but i did not break any thing yet , only nothing so far for my controller; do i need to undo any of that ( and how) and what else can i try to get my controller working ,

install xpad driver , update it, uninstall xbox driver.
