Wine Install Errors

Post by SolusUmbra » Tue Jul 30, 2019 1:50 pm

I was trying to install wine on my mom's linux mint cinnamon 64 bit and everything seemed to have installed from the software manager just fine, but it wouldn't seem to run. I can the winecfg in the terminal and while it did work I also got some errors listed. I'm hoping someone can help me get this working.

Code: Select all

~$ winecfg
0009:fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly L"Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls" (6.0.0.0)
0010:err:ole:marshal_object couldn't get IPSFactory buffer for interface {00000131-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}

I'm also very new so if some needed information is missing please let me know.Thank you

How did you install Wine?

Recommended way is to install it with this command:
apt install --install-recommends wine-installer

Remove your current Wine packages first. See the Wine 4.0 section in the release notes for further detail as to how to remove those packages completely: https://linuxmint.com/rel_tessa_cinnamon.php

Ran
$ dpkg -l | grep wine | grep "3\."
It came up with nothing
Ran
$ apt install --install-recommends wine-installer
It came back with

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
wine-installer is already the newest version (4.0.5).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded.
Ran winecfg same errors still listed. I'm still very new to linux so if there is another code for uninstalling something please let me know.

I'd uninstall all wine packages with Synaptic in your menu, and afterwards run this command to cleanly install it anew:
apt install --install-recommends wine-installer

I have wine installed and your command returned nothing, because of the "grep 3..."
Try this:

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep wine

But when I tried to remove them it said;
[rm: cannot remove 'wine-stable-i386:i386': No such file or directory
/c]
[c]rm: cannot remove 'wine-desktop-files': No such file or directory

That's how you remove a file, not a package.

Remove it like this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge wine-stable-i386:i386
It's weird that's the only wine package you have, so if

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep wine
returns other wine packages, remove those (with the left side showing "ii" = installed).

Then do what xenopeek suggested:

Code: Select all

apt install --install-recommends wine-installer
