Skyrim Special Edition. No Characture Voices or Music.

Post by zirconium » Thu Aug 08, 2019 10:35 pm

Hi everyone,

The game I'm talking about is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. I use a Linux Mint 19.1 machine and proton 4.11-2 to play the game. During the opening scene Ralof and the thief will start dialoguing but there is no audio to their words. In fact there is no audio to any of the characters. I can turn on subtitles and read thier speech. I've checked that the sound in settings is on. The grand introduction music isn't playing as well.

Does anyone have a fix for this? I've tried suggestions online by changing winecfg library or forcing xact but usually what happens is after Ralof asks the thief to join the conversation the thief will just stare at Ralof and events will not progress such as leaving the wagon or Alduin just staring at me. Currently, I'm messing with FAudio with the code below:

Code: Select all

git clone git://github.com/FNA-XNA/FAudio.git
cd FAudio
mkdir flibitBuild
cd flibitBuild
cmake ..
make
But get this message after executing make:

Code: Select all

[ 5%] Building C object CMakeFiles/FAudio.dir/src/FAudio_platform_sdl2.c.o
/home/zirconium/FAudio/src/FAudio_platform_sdl2.c: In function ‘FAudio_PlatformInit’:

 #pragma message("Please update to SDL 2.0.9 ASAP!")
         ^~~~~~~

make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/FAudio.dir/all] Error 2
Makefile:129: recipe for target 'all' failed
make: *** [all] Error 2
I'm not sure how to progress.

Like it said, you need to have at least SDL version 2.0.9

So go to https://www.libsdl.org/download-2.0.php and download https://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL2-2.0.10.tar.gz

Code: Select all

wget https://www.libsdl.org/release/SDL2-2.0.10.tar.gz
tar xvzf SDL2-2.0.10.tar.gz
cd SDL2-2.0.10
mkdir build
cd build
../configure
make
sudo make install
Now that you have latest SDL library installed. You need to to re-compile FAudio

Code: Select all

cd ~/FAudio
rm -R build
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ../ -DXNASONG=OFF -DFFMPEG=ON
make
Now you have latest FAudio library, you need to make steam uses it by using symlink.

Code: Select all

cp libFAudio.so.0.19.08 ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.2/dist/lib64
cd ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.2/dist/lib64
rm libFAudio.so.0
ln -s libFAudio.so.0.19.08 libFAudio.so.0

Now that you have latest SDL library installed. You need to to re-compile FAudio

Code: Select all

cd ~/FAudio
rm -R build
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ../ -DXNASONG=OFF -DFFMPEG=ON
make
I downloaded the SDL2 2.0.10 and when I input

Code: Select all

cmake ../ -DXNASONG=OFF -DFFMPEG=ON
I get this error

Code: Select all

It said
-- Could NOT find FFmpeg_avcodec (missing: FFmpeg_avcodec_LIBRARY FFmpeg_avcodec_INCLUDE_DIR)
My best guess is to install ffmpeg

Code: Select all

sudo apt install ffmpeg
