Steam ESO - Freezing Issues when not using external monitor -

Post by Zekvyrin »

I have an error I cannot really justify or know what to search to find a solution.

My machine is a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme (Gen 2) - pasted sysinfo below.

I'm running on a Linux Mint 19.3 (liquorix kernel 5.7 but issue is there with 5.4 from repo as well).

I'm playing The Elder Scrolls Online, with Steam using Proton (5.0.9).

Usually I'm playing at home, having a 2nd monitor attached (I'm playing the game in the 2nd monitor usually but I've also tested running it on laptop's monitor as well). Not really any major issues there. Also usually I have it on borderless windowed.

Recently I tried playing without any ext monitor attached and this is where problems started.

After opening the game, system is frozen (or almost frozen), it basically couldn't go to character screen or anything.
I tried alt-tab, switching workspace or go to tty1, but nothing was working (or sometimes if something was happening is was after a loooong time).

Sometimes I manage to get into he game somehow (not with a consistent method). As long as I would be in the game, everything there is fine. When I try to alt tab or switch workspace (e.g. go to discord), everthing outside is very slow and unusable. Switching back into he game and (after some time waiting) again game is as normal.

I went back home after, plugged 2nd monitor again, working fine as before.. So this issue only happens when I'm on laptop monitor only.

I've heard about ppl that had issues when on external monitors on other games on applications, but never seen on this, which should be less intensive (because computer doesn't need to operate a 2nd screen).

Any ideas what can I look into?
