i just want MineCraft to work rough Guide

Post by cretsiah »

This was done with Mint 20 XFCE X64 version
32-bit systems probably shouldnt go over version1.12.2 will need java 8 (open java 8 )
32-bit systems non pae probably should not increase maximum ram beyond 2048MB
32-bit systems with pae ability should probably not go over maximum ram beyond 4096MB (needs to be tested)
32-bit systems should be able to use 64-bit guide so long as you remember to take into account ram / memory limitations

64-bit systems currently run MineCraft Version1.16.3 with java 11
64-bit systems will need java 8 (open java 8 ) for 1.12.2
64-bit systems should have 16gig ram for minimum benefit
(according to windows java version of 1.16.1 minecraft now requires 8gig of ram for itself)

GUI way
- first open synaptic package manager ( menu>system>Synaptic Package Manager)
- password (this is your password)
- click on right hand side "Search"
- type in search box "openjdk-8-jre"
- click little box and "mark for installation"
- click apply

go here
https://multimc.org/
look right hand side "linux version"
for mint 20 x64 Ubuntu version is a gdebi install

if running Mint 20 X64 version

once installed:

if running only the latest version of minecraft 1.16.3
- go to add instance
- will have a gold star on the current version
- make sure its highlighted and click ok.
- will need to add account details
- right hand side click "edit instance"
- go to settings
- click on "memory"
- click on maximum memory allocation
- increase to 8192MB ( 8gigs of ram)
- close screen and launch game

if running minecraft 1.12.2
- go to add instance
- will have a gold star on the current version
- make sure its highlighted and click ok.
- right hand side click "edit instance"
- go to settings
- click on "memory"
- click on maximum memory allocation
- increase to 8192MB ( 8gigs of ram)
- click java installation
- browse or auto-detect "/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java"
- close screen and launch game (to test)

Adding Forge 1.12.2
- edit instance 1.12.2
- right hand side "install forge"
- option - rename 1.12.2 Forge (just for simplicity) right click "rename" in menu
- close screen and launch game (to test)

Adding mods to 1.12.2
- highlight 1.12.2 with forge attached
- edit instance
- loader mods
- bottom right (above close button) view folder (this voids looking for hidden folders)
- copy / cut and paste all your mods into folder
- close and launch game

- NB if memory issues or you want to run instance with fewer mods
- edit instance
- loader mods
- untick or click disable for any unwanted mods
- close and launch.

Adding previous world saves:
- same as mods except clicking on worlds (in edit instance settings)

AS OF THIS WRITING :
running 1.12.2 with forge on AMDx64 with these settings as above:
- single player mode 26 mods smooth playability
- local lan server, 19 mods, 2 computers (ryzen 3400G and AMD FX 8320 both with 16 gig ram) smooth playability
- check here for computer specs viewtopic.php?f=225&t=332075

hope this helps
