Can't launch steam games after switching to Nvidia Graphics Card

Post by mikike6889 »

Hi guys well My OS is linux mint 20.2 xfce .

I want to run steam games on my computer .

The thing is that when I switch to my xserver open-source GPU driver everything is ok and I can run the steam games but games run very slow when I switch to the Nvidia recommended driver for my GPU and I reboot the system the speed of my system is really good but I can't run the steam games anymore .

Actually there is no error and the games just won't open for me .

here is the image of my driver options for my GPU :

on Nvidia driver I can't run steam games but the system is too fast.

on xserver driver I can run steam games but the system is too slow.

if you know how to solve this please help.

simple explanations would be better.

I am interested as to why you are only being presented with those choices for the nvidia drivers. On Mint 20.2 Cinnamon I am offered nouveau, nvidia driver 390, 460 and 472. Is xfce that different?

1. When you have Nvidia installed, print output of command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz
I want see if Nvidia driver running and what hardware you have from this output of command.

2. I don't know where you have games installed.

I have on a separate hard disk.
And I have added path in Steam settings ( Settings -> Download -> Steam Library Folders )
I can manually remove the games.
And I can also reinstall from Steam app.

Some games store their settings in folder /home/my_user/.local/share/
If you found wrong graphic card or driver in " preferences " file,
you can rename file. Game will create new file.

3. Steam settings.
And I can rename rename folder /home/my_user/.steam
Steam will create new folder with new Steam settings.

4. From where is your Steam ?
I installed steam:i386 and steam-installer from Synaptic package manager.

In Synaptic package manager is for example 0ad game.
This is 3D game, so you can also test with Nvidia driver.
