Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues [SOLVED]
Hi for some reason i can't run any games on this OS like Eternal Lands or Minecraft. Get a Fatal Error: servers.lst is empty! message for Eternal Lands when opening it. Any ideas? it would open on ubuntu 20 for me before.
Does Linux Mint Mate not have capability to run games overall? I only have 2.8 GB Ram, but on ubuntu it was still able to run it.

Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues for gaming
Is this OS not made for games like Eternal Lands or minecraft? Can't even start Eternal Lands, get a Fatal Error. whereas in Ubuntu it would always load even with only 2.8 GB RAM

Getting a Fatal Error about servers does not sound like a hardware issue. Please provide the complete message and also provide your system information as requested in Section 5 of READ: How To Get Help!.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Hi sorry about that. the popup says Fatal Error on top then underneith [/run/build/client/servers.c:223] Fatar error: servers.lst is empty!
never got this error when running on ubuntu before on same computer, so it shouldn't be the comp specs?
Amd Athlon 64 CPU, with Nvida GeForce 6150 GPU, 2.8 RAM, 160 GB HDD, Biostar homebuild Motherboard.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Your initial post saying you were running Ubuntu 20. But then you say you installed Linux Mint 19.3 which is based on Ubuntu 18.04 so I would expect there would be differences.
If you want something similar to Ubuntu 20 then you would want to install a version of Linux Mint 20.
That sounds like there may be an issue with the networking? Not sure of the specific requirements for the game.
Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:
Code: Select all
inxi -Fxxxrz
</>
from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code tags and paste the results of the command between the code tags
Results
Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Hi, so it won't work for ubuntu 18 either?
what info do you need from that command?
what info do you need from that command?
Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
What i meant was i did run it on ubuntu 20, not ubuntu 18. Now i'm running it on Linux Mate Tricia 19.3 and it's not working . Ubuntu 18 should be able to run games like eternal lands right?
Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
The error message you posted sounds like a problem with the installation of the game. It is not an operating system file. I am not familiar with that game, but have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the game?
You have not provided any information about how Mint sees your hardware so we do not even know if Linux Mint is installed correctly.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Linux mint works well for everything else. how do i find that info? the command you posted has lots of info in it lol
Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
The game installed fine with no errors though before on ubuntu 20. weird.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Then it sounds like Linux Mint is probably not the problem. It sounds like this is an issue related to the game and its installation/set up.
Sorry, but I can not help you with troubleshooting the game. Maybe someone else more familiar with it can help. You might also want to check to see if there is a forum for the game where there might be helpful information.
The command I posted has a
z
in it to remove personally identifying information. Take a look closely at the output and you will see <filtered>
in output (and most likely in multiple places in the output).A woman typing on a laptop with LM20.3 Cinnamon.
Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
The error message seems to indicate there is a problem connecting to the host server because there is not one specified in the "empty" server.lst. You would need someone who knows more about the game to be able to help with that.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
ok wierd, cause it worked fine on ubuntu. Also my computer and screen just crashed and froze up all of a sudden twice when i ran that command you posted again!
This didn't happen the other day. is it because i unmounted the ubuntu 19 OS partition from gparted earlier, which i'm trying to delete? or switched it to cleared then back to ext4? it's in the same sda2 partition as this linux mint which in installed from flash drive on hard drive, but it won't let me delete it for some reason. the ubuntu 20 is in a seperate partition of the HDD in Sda1.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Did it stop before showing the network section? I have heard others having issues when running the command and it was a problem with the network connection/driver. That would relate with the error message you posted for the game.
You can also try getting slighty different inxi information from the System Reports app. Open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click Copy and paste the results into a reply window here.
It might be best to make a new topic for that issue. Unless you have partitions automatically mounting when you boot Linux Mint (and I do not know that since you did not post any information), I do not understand how your Ubuntu installs relate to your Linux Mint install.FlatAerth wrote: ⤴Wed May 25, 2022 11:42 amThis didn't happen the other day. is it because i unmounted the ubuntu 19 OS partition from gparted earlier, which i'm trying to delete? or switched it to cleared then back to ext4? it's in the same sda2 partition as this linux mint which in installed from flash drive on hard drive, but it won't let me delete it for some reason. the ubuntu 20 is in a seperate partition of the HDD in Sda1.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
no it crashed and froze right after i typed it.
i don't think the network info is the issue tho. i don't want to post my computer bus Id, or network info here. i don't think that's the issue.
i already mentioned the kind of motherboard, cpu and gpu i have earlier

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
here is the main network info tho :
Code: Select all
Network: Device-1: NVIDIA MCP61 Ethernet vendor: Biostar Microtech Intl Corp
type: network bridge driver
Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Something similar happened to the person in this post who has the same Ethernet bridge. Perhaps it is somehow related to your hardware (or the age of your hardware).
Yes, you did mention that. And you gave us zero information about how Linux Mint views that hardware.
Many issues are hard to solve even with the information. The fact you don't want to give helpful information just means you are going to be on your own unless someone else wants to play a guessing game with you.

Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
Not sure with the former game..but with Minecraft the best way to get that installed is to download the Java Version from minecraft's website and install java on your system..
and then you run Minecraft from within the extracted tarball/ZIP downloaded from the Minecraft website.
Right?
Re: Linux Mint Mate Tricia 19.3 Issues
smg i got ya. i appreciate the help! But that network info i provided was the same as the motherboard name :Biostar NG1PB lol. that's why i'm confused why it's also called network connection. 'Network bridge driver' for type is what everyone has ? That shouldn't be the issue. this computer worked on ubuntu 20 for Eternal lands, so it can't be the computer model as problem.
user6cb, ya i can open minecraft, but when i go to sign up on the site, it won't load for some reason. also i updated java on linux mint Mate 19.3, but i don't think the new version worked. will that matter to play minecraft here? wierd how minecraft opens to start, but not eternal laands.
Also is the RAM requirements and performance overall the same for all cinnamon vs mate versions on Mint? what's really the main difference? And ith 2.8 Ram on this Athlon AMD 64 x2, either one would be ok? Or should i keep Mate for the lower RAM?

I'm not really familiar with Biostar.FlatAerth wrote: ⤴Thu May 26, 2022 12:18 pm smg i got ya. i appreciate the help! I'm not sure what is different about the networking on that motherboard that it is called by that name. Usually, the inxi output shows an Ethernet connection and (if available) a WiFi connection. This is the network section from my laptop:
Code: Select all
Network:
Device-1: Intel 82579V Gigabit Network vendor: Hewlett-Packard

Device-2: Broadcom and subsidiaries BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n
