Insurgency Sandstorm problems

This cooperative shooter that I enjoy, Insurgency Sandstorm, is in my Steam library and uses Easy Anti Cheat. I can get the game to run, once every ~15 or so tries. Most attempts to run the game end with a splash screen that is supposed to disappear when the game loads.

I click Play in my Steam client and the EAC splash screen flashes, then the Insurgency Sandstorm logo pops up...and that's it. The logo never disappears and the game never runs. So I click Stop, give it a second to let it sync, then click Play again. The game will run but like I said, maybe it runs once after ~15 attempts. I've tried a few different Proton versions, but get the same behavior.

Anyone else have this issue with Sandstorm? Or have any advice? Thanks.
