Hey everyone! I just bought Grand Theft Auto V since it was on sale for my PC to compliment the fact that I got a new GPU a week ago. I haven't been able to run GTA V since I bought it GTA doesnt even start! I got a log from steam / proton. I tried doing it on a ton of different versions of proton,

I would also like to point out that when I open steam at boot or restart it, it comes up with a wine error. the error says file not found, and I usually ignore it because the games I play run fine. Is anybody able to help me? Thanks!!

when I open " Steam " at boot or restart it, it comes up with a wine error.
I'm not where your problem is. ( old settings , missing dependencies )
In your place I would like to install a newer system.

- I have "Steam" installed from Synaptic package manager
I can't find a suitable guide, But maybe it'll help a little.
https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install- ... ossa-linux

If you want install wine https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu
However
- I do not have installed any wine and Steam working
"22.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)" = appropriate 21 or 21.1 https://linuxmint.com/download_all.php
- I can not test, because I don't have this game.
Can you test another game?

Hey Ulthoz!
Wine messages about prefixes "not owned by you" are probably linked to NTFS filesystem usage.
Are you trying to run the game from a Win partition?

Then, your inxi report reveals a software sources chaos with 2 "active" repos for proprietary AMD Graphics drivers (you have nvidia!) and an Ubuntu wine repo coexisting with winehq (it doesn't look good, I'd stick with winehq as my system-wide wine installation and manage additional versions with an app like ProtonUp-Qt). Keep it clean, my twopence. Remove irrelevant repositories.

Official steam installer for Linux works perfectly on LM 20.3 and and never got any "wine error" whatsoever. I've no personal experience but GTA V should at least launch on Steam/Proton on your system.

It should be working fine but I don't understand why this did happen. I don't think I've got an idea to troubleshoot.

Do you have WINE installed? That might be part of your issue.

For running on steam ,I don't think WINE is required.
