No keyboard control when GRUB menu is displayed [SOLVED]

Post by c.monty » Sat Oct 05, 2013 3:35 pm

Hello!

After upgrade to UP7 of my LMDE installation (running XFCE desktop), I have a nice looking GRUB menu, however I cannot select any line item that is listed.

Checking the installed version of GRUB I'm not sure if this is relevant for this issue:

Code: Select all

user@pc-lmde:~$ dpkg --list | grep grub
ii grub-common 1.99-27+deb7u1 i386 GRand Unified Bootloader (common files)
ii grub-pc 1.99-27+deb7u1 i386 GRand Unified Bootloader, version 2 (PC/BIOS version)
ii grub-pc-bin 1.99-27+deb7u1 i386 GRand Unified Bootloader, version 2 (PC/BIOS binaries)
ii grub2-common 1.99-27+deb7u1 i386 GRand Unified Bootloader (common files for version 2)
ii grub2-theme-mint 1.0.9 all Grub2 theme for Linux Mint
Well, this LMDE installation is running on a Pentium 4 machine, and the (wireless) keyboard is connected via USB.
One may claim that with old machines only PS/2 keyboard connectors will work.
But this is not true, because I can access the BIOS menu with the USB keyboard without issues.

Any ideas how to fix this GRUB issue?

THX

You may be able to access the BIOS from your wireless keyboard, but does GRUB, even on a Live CD/USB work with the keyboard?
LMDE Mate 64-bit, LM17.3 Cinnamon 64-bit
Debian Mate 64-bit, Xubuntu xenial 64-bit, Ubuntu-Mate 14.04 64-bit, Antergos Xfce 64-bit, PCLinuxOS Mate 64-bit

I have booted a Live-CD, and the issue occurred,too.
My conclusion was that a setting in BIOS must be the root cause.

In fact I found a setting that I changed, and now the issue is resolved.

Was that the legacy keyboard support setting, by chance?
