random logouts

Post by scimmiettarossa » Thu Oct 31, 2013 3:20 pm

hi all

since a few weeks, i'm experiencing an erratic behaviour of my system: sometimes (mostly on double-clicking on a filename in the filemanager, but sometimes on other actions, or even doing nothing) the system logs out from my session, and in a few seconds returns to the login screen, exactly as i had chosen a "logout" action

at the next login, some of the windows restore automatically, some not

i do not know if the issues are related, but roughly since the same date, when i choose the "exit" icon, the systems logs out directly, with no confirmation, nor any possibility to choose between the classic "restart/shutdown/logout/cancel" options

i tried to check in the logs, but honestly i do not what to search for

any help out there?

What you're calling a logout looks to me like an X-window server crash. If that's the case, you may find some useful messages in the .xsession_errors file in your home directory. You'll have to use one of the terminal session windows to look at it, of course. If you log in again via the GUI, .xsession_errors will be overwritten.
