Here's what inxi -r gives me on my Mint 17 install. I have added a few non-standard repositories to it, edit the list if you like.

I thought LMDE sources would be different from 17s. Silly me! Thanks for the help.

Umm... LMDE sources are different. Here's what

Code: Select all

inxi -r
gives me (on LMDE) Notice that there is nothing to do with Ubuntu? LMDE is not based off of Ubuntu, so if you use the sources given in jimallyn's post in a LMDE machine, you will probably break it at some point or another. (his sources are correct for the standard edition of Mint, just not LMDE).
Best to you!

basic question, I installed mint debian edition and when I run apt-get update I get a bunch of unable to connect's. So I got a current sources.list but when I try to scp it from the main computer on the network to his I get a connection timed out. I tried installing ssh but that didn't help any. I don't tink that is the problem as openssh appears to be installed. What do I need to install?

what happens:
scp marksources.list mark@192.168.0.2:/etc/apt/sources./official-package-repositories.list
ssh: connect to host 192.168.0.2 port 22: Connection timed out
lost connection

I also can not ssh:

$ ssh -vvv mark@192.168.0.2
OpenSSH_6.6.1, OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
debug1: /etc/ssh/ssh_config line 19: Applying options for *
debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0
debug1: Connecting to 192.168.0.2 [192.168.0.2] port 22.
debug1: connect to address 192.168.0.2 port 22: Connection timed out
ssh: connect to host 192.168.0.2 port 22: Connection timed out

I just checked and ssh works between my main computer and a third computer I have.

This happened once a while ago and it was a simple fix. I thought it was that I had to install openssh-client/server but those two programs seem to already be installed. Any ideas?

but I'm looking for those of UP8
On top of the forum it says LMDE1 EOL is 1st jan 2016. That's still 2 weeks to go. So the repos should be somewhere.

Oh, I see.

What are you running now? If you have LMDE 1 installed then the repos are already there.

No they are not.
I got this:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com debian main upstream import romeo

deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/ testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free

deb http://extra.linuxmint.com debian main
And the http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest gives a 404, so there is no repo there. That's why I ask for the current sources.

Code: Select all

Err http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/ testing/main python-oauth all 1.0.1-3
  404 Not Found
Just tested... the sources are back! So someone read this thread and corrected the mistake without acknowledging the error!

Code: Select all

Get:1 http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/ testing/main python-oauth all 1.0.1-3 [14.2 kB]
Get:2 http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/ testing/main python-tweepy all 2.1-1 [22.3 kB]
Fetched 36.4 kB in 0s (55.4 kB/s)
This sheds no good light on the quality of the mint maintainers.

You're going to need to go into more detail. Where are you getting these sources from?
Sources are on your computer at /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ You can view them using

Code: Select all

inxi -r
The mint maintainers are great, btw. :)

Now that it works again, this has been an error on the side of mint repository server. Still, imagine that I delete my sources, the only place where I could find a sources.list is this thread. That's a bit odd.

Here is my situation:

Code: Select all

Repos: Active apt sources in file: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free

           deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free
           deb http://extra.linuxmint.com debian main

Or maybe they did...

That’s a total of 3 servers going down in just a few weeks. This time around we had full backups though and we were able to minimize downtime (no downtime at all on the Mint and LMDE2 repositories, a few hours yesterday on the LMDE 1 repositories).

What is odd is the fact that you want to delete your sources.list file...
