Intel LAN Controller not Recognised [SOLVED]

I have been trying to get LMDE to work on my computer that I just built. I used an Asus P8P67 Pro (Revision 3) motherboard that according to the box has an Intel 82579 Gigabit LAN controller. Upon installation LMDE does not detect the LAN controller. I used the latest version from the LM site and also tried the latest version of Debian and they both decided that it didn't want to work.

I have Googled around and I came across this http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=611798 which would seem to suggest that the kernel has been updated to support this new controller. Is this a correct assumption? If so would it be possible to install LMDE then update the kernel from a file I downloaded onto a flash drive? (How would I go about that?)

Regards
Dave

You probably want to try liquorix kernels, that are up-to-date (but 2.6.38 should come into LMDE soon). For more infos, liquorix.net

If I were to use liquorix I would be able to replace the current version that is installed then switch back to the one used by LMDE?

When will the next LMDE .iso be out? (I presume that it would include a more recent kernel).

I have used apt-offline to get all the updates for LMDE from another computer that does have a working connection. It has 2.6.32 and still no joy. Does anyone have any ideas? it works in LM10 and Ubuntu 10.10.

UPDATE:
If you install e1000 then it works flawlessly.
