memory usage LMDE vs Standard Edition

I have the LMDE installed on a 64bit HP workstation with 4GB RAM. The RAM consumption is about 350MB when no apps are running.

I installed the standard edition (based on ubuntu) on a laptop with 32bit core duo processor and 1GB RAM. The RAM consumption is about 200MB when no apps are running.

Any reason for this difference?

Whether the destro is LMDE or Ubuntu makes not difference ... the difference in the samples mentioned, is 32-bit verses 64-bit.

While a 64-bit processor is faster, than a 32-bit processor . . . as a rule, 64-bit uses more resources, out of the box.
