selection with arrows problem since pack3 upgrade [SOLVED]

Hi everyone,
since I upgraded to LMDE pack3, selection with arrows is broken in most apps I use :
For example, in gedit, keeping Shift+down arrow keys pressed from beginning of file, makes the first line be selected, then unselect it before selecting line 2, which is unselected before selecting line 3, and so on, instead of having all lines selected.
This happens also in zim, and even in lyx which is qt based unlike zim and gedit but, strangely, not in geany which is gtk based like zim and gedit.
Also, it happens with gnome and xfce4 session, but not with icewm as standalone window manager.
Any idea how to solve this problem ?
Thanks,
Denis
