Custom menus in Xfce4

What I like about using custom menus in Xfce4 is that you are able to reuse them in any Xfce distro just by copying a few folders on to your new install and adding new menu launchers to the panel and pointing at your menus.

In this video I'm using a different distro(SaleneOS) but it's exactly the same in LMDE Xfce
Video at http://lin.me.uk/saline/why-custom-menus.mp4

I put some together 3 months ago and haven't stopped using them. :)
I got the info from here http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/customize-menu

Quoted from the page linked above:
A GNU-licensed graphical menu editor for LXDE, LXMenuEditor, also works for XFCE, as of XFCE 4.8.0 and LXMenuEditor 20110523.
I"ll be interested to see how that works out. Haven't tried it myself. Anyone here tried LXMenuEditor in Xfce 4.8.x?

I have on Xubuntu so I don't know if there are any differences in Mint.

But there is one quirk in all this and it has to do with the *.desktop file that a given application creates when you install it. If you go to /usr/share/applications and open up an editor to one of the applications you might see a line that looks like this:
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;
It has to be changed to:
OnlyShowIn=XFCE;
Come to think of it it might work if you just comment out the line with a preceeding #. Never tried that.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't like the idea of using Alacarte in Xfce because it wants to bring in so much stuff with it. I'm using Xfce 4.6 in SalineOS, so I can't try LXMenuEditor there yet, but I will when Saline gets Xfce 4.8.
