Has anyone updated from 5? Last time I tried Java stopped working.

Sorry, can't help. I use Iceweasel 9.0.1 and everything runs absolutely perfect.
If you want the real Debian-Edition, it is called Iceweasel and is completely identical (just a change of Brand name) then add the following lines into your /etc/apt/sources.list
Code: Select all
deb http://backports.debian.org/debian-backports squeeze-backports main
# deb http://mozilla.debian.net/ squeeze-backports icedove-release
deb http://mozilla.debian.net/ squeeze-backports iceweasel-release
and then make a
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
If you also want to change your Thunderbird to Icedove you uncomment the second line.
Just as a precaution, I would save the profiles and close Firefox and Thunderbird. All Addons will be checked and taken on automatically, those who need an upgrade will be announced.
With this you get all upgrades immediately Debian releases them.

I have been using FF 9 since it first came down to the LMDE repos. It is working fine for me.

Just thought I might mention that upgrading with apt-get seems to install Firefox v. 9.0.1 as well as Thunderbird 9.0.1. I followed Arran's suggestion above in this thread which is to add debian backports to your sources.list in order to get the latest Iceweasel. However, I found that I didn't get Iceweasel but a new version of the Mint package for Firefox. It also installed a newer version of my favourite browser, Opera. I don't know whether it was the change to my sources.list or just the apt-get upgrade command that enabled the upgrade of these browsers.
In any case, my thanks to Arran as without his tip I wouldn't have got these newer, safer browsers. I was beginning to get concerned that no updates were coming down the pipe-line for my installation of LMDE-Xfce, which I am very happy with, finding it much faster and less bothersome than Gnome. I see in various messages that we are waiting for a new MintUpdate Package which promises to have a whole load of new version packages to install, but my version 3 has indicated that my system is up to date ever since I installed it a month and a half ago. I suppose this is why I was stuck with the original version 5 of Firefox.
