[Solved] Adding menu items with xfce

Post by Ness »

Hello - I'm trying to add a couple games I have into the Games section in my Menu. I have Minecraft but for some reason it doesn't want to save there.. what's the path to add these items? Thanks.

Edit: [Solved]
Resolution: Installed alacarte

Menu items ".desktop" files are normally at "/usr/share/applications"

Here's a speed-dreams.desktop I have:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=Speed Dreams
Comment=Fun racing game!
TryExec=/usr/local/games/speed-dreams-2
Exec=speed-dreams-2
Icon=/home/usuario/Pictures/Icons/speed-dreams.png
Categories=Game
If minecraft doesn't have a minecraft.desktop, you can make one based on the one above and put it in ~/.local/share/applications or if there are more than one user in your system then put it in /usr/share/applications.
The TryExec key has the full path to the executable so if it isn't there it won't show in the menu.
The Exec key is the command to run it.
In the Icon key you can put just the name of the icon if your icon theme has an icon for it or otherwise put the whole path to the icon (like above).

* Note that the Categories value is Game, not Games.

Hello - Thank you for your replies. Sorry it took me so long to get back, I've been very busy with work recently. I actually installed a program called alacarte that seems to work fine and makes it easy for what I was looking to do.

Thanks!
