Running Linux Mint Xfce version 4.8.0 distributed by Debian.
Update manager is recommending 408 updates.
Should I just say "yes" to all recommended updates?
If not, how do you decide which updates to perform?
Thanks for any direction or suggestions.

lmde-xfce is a rolling release well, almost rolling so you should accept ALL the updates, risking break your system if you don't.
