VMWare 10.0.1, Mint 17, Kernel 3.17

Post by Adler »

Hi All,

As the Topic says: VMWare 10.0.1, Mint 17, Kernel 3.17.. I always up-date to the newest Kernal, and it ruined VMWare.
Unable to start services.

See log file /tmp/vmware-root/vmware-modconfig-30978.log for details.
.

I have searched, tried, various scripts, and installed / deleted VMWare so often, that I thought I would ask: 1) how to delete everything VMWare, and 2) re-install this puppy.

Any working solution gets praise! LOL!

Re: VMWare 10.0.1, Mint 17, Kernel 3.17

Hi All,

I keep going at this. I use VirtualBox to run M$ 7, and - am trying - after a Kernel up-grade (3.17) to get my VMWare back. I have (had) another OS running there. All was great!

I have tried numerous scripts / patches, but no help.

Any help?

Download the latests vmware from their website. The current one from the package manager wont work. The kernel update have listed a error about that if you have noticed it (i got a message in the kernel update process about this).

1. Delete the current one from your machine (open terminal and write this: sudo apt-get remove virtualbox* --purge)
2. Install package from this site https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads and follow the debian instructions

As for kernel v3.18-rc1, that one does not work with the latest NVIDIA driver, i already tested that one too.

Michel,

We are talking about VMWare, not VirtualBox. I Love VB, which runs MS7. But, I have a peculiar OS, that ran well until my Kernel (3.17) up-grade. I am still looking for the patch.

I have Googled, and tried eveything. I would kiss VMWare goodbye, but this OS is special.

Whoops my mistake . Maybe they will update it for the new kernels soon.

Michel,

VB works great after any Kernel up-grade. VMWare is a different story. I have an X system waiting to up-grade. But, can't get VMare going.

I have posted / asked everywhere.

The VB that got shipped within mint didn't work with the newest kernel, when the kernel update was running it gaved 2 errors about VB.

Hi All,

Still looking for a solution - VMWare & Kernel 3.17.

At this point - I would also need to scrub my disc of any, and all VMWare stuff, to do a clean install.

Help?

Hi All,

I have put this issue, on the back burner, and I thought that I'd ask again how to patch VMWare. Any VMWare version - 10.0/1/2 - and Linux Kernel 3.17.

Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

I installed Linux Mint 17 on vmware workstation 10. Install went fine and I bridged the network connection. However I cannot access the internet through a browser or update mint. I connect with the client machine to the internet over a wireless network. Thanks for your help in advance

It seems that VMare is a mess.I have no idea who uses it. Personally, I use VirtualBox to run M$ 7. But, run another OS X (think anything, but orange) via VMWare.

Everytime I up-date the Kernel VMWare is not responsive. I am not sure if VMWare is still a viable optiion. I have posted everywhere to try to patch VMWare, but no response.

I do Blog / Web Sites, and see a major loss using VMWare. But, who needs to Virtualize OS X anyway?
