OK, you did it perfectly right.
foersu wrote:There is one thing, I wonder a little bit about: when I start Mint, after login I takes about 35 seconds until the Cinnamon desktop appears. It seems to be a long time to me, my company notebook, working under windows 7 is faster :(
I don't see a relationship. Different hardware can explain it easily. I have at now a SSD for my system and this is very much faster, but to my remembrance the older computer - nearly the same hardware, but with a magnetic hard drive - did take about the same time.

As I already wrote, I have no idea what might have happened here. If I where you I would try it once again with a new VM - it is easy to delete it later, if you have no use for it - to find out, if it was a coincidence.

Back to the existing VM: Now after having it installed, to you see any delays?

It might also be helpful to know something about your host machine. Open terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
and paste the output here.

Btw., after installing VirtualBox, now I have five active VB related services (so shown in the Boot-Up Manager).
Can I deactivate them hopping they are activated only then, when I start VirtualBox, even if it takes a little bit longer?
Thanx!

Do you mean with Boot-Up Manager "Startprogramme"? That is strange, I have and had never an entry there. And 5 entries is even more strange. Or do you mean something else?

You inxi-report shows nothing which gives any reasons for delays.

This may happen, if a new page gets needed for a thread.

I do not mean the "Startprogramme": there; no VB related entries exist.

I mean the "Boot-up Manager" (called "bum"), which I installed with Synaptic. There I can see the started services (no programs). The name of the services is very cryptic, having a very short textual description.

Btw.: when I go in the forum to this Subject (via "View your posts"), I again do not see the last posts since yesterday. I have to click on "Post a reply" (or similar) to see the last posts, my questions and your answers. So we seem to have two threads, not easy to handle for me.

Regarding bum: I don't use it.

Regarding the problem in the forum: Clean your cache in the browser.

bum is a small tool with a graphical UI, easier to use and somehow to understand what it displays. Under "Hilfe" it is briefly described as "Ein graphisches Werkzeug zur Handhabung von Runlevel Konfiguration". Just for your information, if you don't use, you of course don't have to care about it.

Regarding the "Splittscreen" in Forum: I cleaned my browser (Chrome Version 44.0.2403.130 m, 64-bit) completely, not only the cache. However the situation remains unchanged:
  • the last post I see in the main thread is my own one from Sun Aug 23, 2015 6:07 pm.

@Cosmo: I want to thank you for your support. Now I am working with the virtual machine, making some trials etc. I enjoy learning a little bit more about Linux. Bye.

In windows platform, for using linux virtually, i used VMware. It was so good tool. non-commercial edition is good for normal purpose.
I am learning linux and computer networking more and more. I've a blog related to computer networking. If you are interested may visit there. Thanks
