QEMU machine copied from another Linux box fails

Post by kwazy »

Hi,
I have a QEMU virtual machine with Windows 8 x64 guest inside. It runs fine on openSUSE Leap 42. But when I start it on the latest Linux Mint the guest Windows OS gives blue screen and gets in restart loop. Looks like some driver incompatibility. On openSUSE I start it his way:

Code: Select all

qemu-kvm -hda WindowsVM.img
Is there a way to run this VM on Linux Mint? Maybe some compatibility mode exists?

Thanks

No, I never install guest add-ons for qemu machines. But I will try to test if it resolves bsod issue
Where can I find add-on CD for QEMU?

Sorry, but I can't find how to install QEMU-KVM guest tools. Is it applicable at all?

I think Pierre had Virtualbox in mind when he posted.

Try to install the gui virt-manager and create a vm around the img file you have.
If you know what the vm default settings were under OpenSUSE it should be relatively easy to get it to boot but without that information you wil have to play around with it.
