[SOLVED] Error messages in VMware virtual machine, should I be worried?

Post by TM7412 »

I have installed LM 18.1 on an ASUS K53E laptop with no major issues. However, when I created a VMware Workstation (latest v.12.5) guest install of the same LM 18.1 on this machine (so I can test & muck around without worry), I see the following error messages in the error log:

- sd 2:0:0:0: [sda] Assuming drive cache: write through
- Piix4_SMBus: SMBus Host controller not enabled
- intel_rapl: no valid rapl domains found in package 0

None of these messages appear in the host install, just the guest VM.

The VM “seems” to boot and operate just fine, and the research I’ve done seems to indicate these are inconsequential messages, but I would appreciate confirmation from the pros here in the forum.

If it’s ok to ignore them, what is the best way to tell LM to not show me these messages?

Thanks

The first one relating to sda is not an error message, just the type of cache it's using (actually write through that is no cache).
SMBUS is an ancient communication protocol, not sure if it's relevant for modern hardware.
Intel_rapl is for power management - I don't believe this should matter with regard to the VM.

I get tons of "error messages", but things just work.

Thanks for the reply.

Essentially what I deduced. I will just ignore the errors.
