Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox[SOLVED]
I am using mint18 cinnamon and tried running fedora25 and manjaro17 in virtualbox5.1 on Compaq 420(32bit)
Though for test purposes other linux versions viz. mint18 KDE and mint17.2 seem to run well, though a bit slow, but both fedora(gives a blank screen) and manjaro(shows-NO SUITABLE KERNELS AVAILABLE) fail to run.
Can anyone help out with suggestions. Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
The reason Mint distros work out-of-the-box in virtualbox is because they have the guest addition package installed.
To get fedora and mandriva working you'll have to install the guest additions manually.
You will also need to install the virtualbox-guest-additions-iso package to your cinnamon installation with
You can find instruction for installing it here
Good luck

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
Are both guests 32 bit architectures?
Which template (version) did you select in the first page for creating a new VM for those 2 guests?

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
thx, for both of your mails:
both versions are 32bit. with iso from the website chkd for sha and md5.
Fedora-Workstation-Live-i386-25-1.3.iso
manjaro-xfce-17.0.1-stable-i686.iso
guest add. already installed:
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-additions-iso
[sudo] password for utkarsh:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
virtualbox-guest-additions-iso is already the newest version (5.0.40-0ubuntu1.16.04.1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 27 not upgraded.
pls suggest if i shd go all over again for installing manually.
meanwhile trying from the link sent by you. thx

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
It doesn't appear that your problem is related to the guest additions. My mistake with that.
Troubleshooting this would be the same as troubleshooting a regular installation starting with booting to the live media, mounting the guest partition and taking a look around.

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
to re-iterate that:
you have to get either / both of them to a Live Desktop Environment,
& when booting their mounted ISO in that virtual environment.
& you may have to achieve that, before you can even load the Guest Additions, into the Live Environment.

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
still not working!
on the first page the 'templet' is the same as the image you sent-saying 32 bit linux, it automatically comes as i type 'fedora25' in the first line.
btw, i'm not a pro in this field, and was keen on experimenting with these two versions.my queries:
should i have taken a prior release (as it says 'kernel' problems on the welcome window after starting mandriva from vbox)
is there a simple way to run non ubuntu distros in vbox. some tutorials might be...thx

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
Which is the precise version number of VB? Taken from which source?
Which kernel version do the planned guests use by default?

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
Just out of curiosity I installed Fedora 25 64 bit version in a Virtualbox. The installation layout wasn't as intuitive as Mint's, but if you select and answer all the options it works
Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
i have 'virtualbox-5.1_5.1.18-114002~Ubuntu~xenial_i386.deb' downloaded from the virtualbox website.

Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
For a manjaro VM try to use the Arch Linux template.
As far as I can see from - too small - last picture one of the VMs seems to work now.

You can use a file hoster like imgur.com and link the uploaded pictures here. Please use the https protocol in this case.
Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
Thx. for the advice.
I have uploaded the images on <https://imgur.com/a/wwXr1>
Meanwhile, changed the template for mandriva as suggested, but in vain.
Should i try with 'qemu'? or/as tried looking for VMware (32bit) but could not find it. Seems like most of the distros and apps have moved on with 64bit. I have a 32 bit machine only.My problem!!
Thx.

As you should have seen by yourself, this is not a clickable link. Enclose the link in rimg-tags (mark te link and click the rimg button above the editor window in your browser, when you post here).ucma wrote:I have uploaded the images on <https://imgur.com/a/wwXr1>
Possibly this is the origin of your problem. Even if you would have a 64 bit machine, for installing a 64 bit guest there are some preconditions, that must be fulfilled. If this is not the case, you cannot install a 64 bit guest OS.ucma wrote:I have a 32 bit machine only.My problem!!
Re: Fedora25/Mandriva not working in Virtualbox
In your screenshot collection there is one terminal-like picture, where it says, that the machine is not 64 bit capable. This leads me to the suspicion, that your ISO fie for Mandriva is a 64 bit version and as already said, this cannot work. I assume, that for Fedora the same applies.
