VirtualBox USB Printer problems [SOLVED]

Post by kermit_t_frog »

Hi Guys

I'm running Virtualbox 5.1.22 and same version extension pack.
Host: Mint 18.1 MATE 64-bit
Guest: Mint 18.1 XFCE 64-bit (with Guest Additions 5.1.22 installed)

I'm trying to get my USB Brother MFC-7220 working in the Guest VM, using the same settings that work with the host (using Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/hl1250 driver in case someone has one of these). I can select the printer under the Devices menu okay, have setup a filter using the default settings. But when I tell it to print a test page it sits there and says "Processing - Waiting for printer to become available."

When I hover over the USB icon in the lower right corner it reports "Unknown device 04F9:0185 [0100]" - ie the Brother printer

File sharing works perfectly. I've also tried switching to USB 1.1 - with no success. What am I missing?

Remove the filter for now. The usb filters are not needed, they are for easier access, provided that they are correctly set up. If not they create easily confusion.

Hi Cosmo / Guys

It works when I select the USB 3.0 controller under USB settings. Didn't even think of choosing this as its plugged into a USB 2.0 port. Its been bugging me for over a month!

Thanks again Cosmo
