ssd health monitor for linux

Post by juicer »

OK so I recently had a platter hard drive click its last breath. Not a real loss data wise but I wish there was a way to monitor and predict near death for my new ssd.
Is there any such thing in the software sources? Any top picks if so?

In the disks application from the 'hamburger' menu there's an option to get SMART information. That will tell you the health of your discs.

If data is important it needs to be backed up. Discs can die without warning even if you're monitoring them regularly.

You can monitor and check the overall health of the unit with smartmontools, but as MintBean advised these block devices can fly south at any time without warning.

So it's prudent to maintain comprehensive backups at all times
