FYI: VirtualBox guest additions removed from LM 18.3

Post by pbear » Wed Nov 29, 2017 1:02 am

A longstanding issue when installing Mint as a guest has been that the base system included three guest addition packages (dkms, utils and x11). Those had to be purged inside VBox before it would run the virtual CD to install guest additions in a way it would recognize. See, e.g., here and here. I submitted the issue as a bug report on the 18.3 beta. Apparently the development team agreed. The packages are not included in the final release of either Mate or Cinnamon. Installed the latter to VBox this evening. The guest additions virtual CD auto-ran just as designed, no purge required.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Running Mate 18.3 64 bit (by upgrade from 18.1-2)

Hoo Ray!
A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it. - Max Planck
