(solved) No bidirectional Clipboard or Drag n drop working

Post by ovisergiu »

Hi!
I use Windows 7 as host and under VirtualBox I have installed Linux Mint 18.3 XFCE x64.
I selected the Clipboard and Drag n Drop to be bidirectional but they are not.

While the Linux Mint machine was running, I clicked Devices - Insert guest Additions CD Image but then I receive an error:

Searching the Internet, someone said that running this command under Terminal, will install the guest additions.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-utils
This will install the guest additions and is more or less equivalent to installing via the ISO.
I did that, everything went fine under the Terminal after using that command.
But... Why can t I have a bidirectional Clipboard or Drag n Drop?

I received that same error when I tried upgrading Virtualbox.

Which version are you using?

Yes, the latest version did that to me. I reverted to version 5.2.4 so it's a temporary fix. I don't know how to get 5.2.6 working properly with the guest additions.

Hi,
Experienced this before with other versions. Possibly try the following...

1) From main VirtualBox menu navigate to 'File' -> 'Virtual Media Manager...' -> 'Optical discs' and remove all entries there.

2) Check individual VM 'Storage' settings to make sure drive is reported as 'Empty'

3) Power on and try installing GA again (note: due to discovered issues, there's separate GA downloads for VirtualBox versions 5.2.6 and 5.1.32)
