You have spaces in your folder/filenames, trying putting quotes around them, e.g. "Windows 10 - Google Earth Clone-disk1.vdi"

Thanks for the reply, I never got the chance to try the quotes I moved the machine to a Windows computer and increased the drive size, tired of looking at a little black box and endless errors. Miss under guesstimating the size of the drive you will need during machine creation seems to be common, hopefully some day VirtualBox will allow resizing of the drive right in the VirtualBox itself.

Its funny I ran Linux Mint as a virtual machine inside Windows 10 now I run Windows 10 as a VM inside Linux Mint, if I could run Google Earth Portable inside Linux Mint, Windows 10 would be history and I would never have needed to resize the drive in the first place

Again thanks.

When I had to do this (only once!) with a win7 guest, office 2013 decided it was a new install when I booted it up and had to use my last remaining licence :( My current win7 VM is 50G and I've only got 15G free, and I don't have that much installed, the two biggies being office and coreldraw. In contrast, I've got loads installed in mint and root is only about 15G.

I share your frustration I hate windows 10 soon as I figure out a Google Earth Portable that runs in Linux Mint, Windows 10 is gone I also would settle for a Cache Manager that would manage Google Earths Cache files (copy them to another drive) that runs in Linux Mint..

Thanks again for the help.

Don't know about portable, which from a quick google, looks like a version that runs without internet access, but you can run google earth under linux. I'm running version 7.3.2.5481 (64 bit). Think there are problems with some of the later builds.

It has to be Portable version, so I can have 10 or so portables all with full caches then just switch to the Portable GE that has the imaginary for the area I will be in that day already downloaded.

Another work around would be a program that backs up the cache (Google Earth Cache Manager) and allows users to select the cache you want to use and load it this would allow the use of one GE program, I have no clue how to create a program to do this...

Google could have saved a ton of data transferring and grief over the years, I bet I have downloaded the same image data at least a dozen times due to their 2GB limit, without the limit would only need to download the data one time. with a (Google Earth Cache Manager) the image data and the KML files that go with the data could be backed up on a external drive.
