Cannot Install VirtualBox Extension Pack

Post by henrym » Sun Jun 30, 2019 3:15 pm

When I try to install the VirtualBox Extension Pack, it fails and I get this message:

How are you trying to install it? Does the Extension Pack version match your VirtualBox version?
Mint 19.2 XFCE
kernel 4.15.0-62-generic
AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core w/16 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 960 w/2GB RAM (435.21)

I click it and launch VirtualBox which then tries to install it. How do I know which version to download? I just downloaded the version linked on the website.

OK - launch VirtualBox and tell me the version (Help --> About VirtualBox).

OK, that explains it - the one you downloaded it was the v6.0.8 version. The Extension Pack you need is able from Mint. From the terminal, do this:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install virtualbox-ext-pack
Mint 19.2 XFCE
kernel 4.15.0-62-generic
AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core w/16 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 960 w/2GB RAM (435.21)

I am trying to get a working Virtual Box with USB 2 support, and for this I need the extension pack. I just tried the terminal command--

Code: Select all

sudo apt install virtualbox-ext-pack
, and it worked up to a very early stage. When the license came up, the Ok was not live and I couldn't continue with the configuration.

I have installed virtualbox from the Linux Mint Software manager, but that's as far as I have gotten. If I don't have the extension pack, I won't have my mouse which is on USB 2, along with my external HHD.

Is there anything I can do to get to a license Ok that will let me install the extension pack.

Surely you've run into this before. It's a gimmick to force you to do something to acknowledge you had an opportunity to read the license. This particular gimmick, fairly common, requires you to drag the slider down on the right, till you've gotten to the end. Then the "accept" box will become available.

If this doesn't solve the problem, please read how to get help and start your own thread.
