VirtualBox Options

Can VirtualBox virtualize more than workstations? Can it virtualize switches or other network equipment?

I believe you may be misunderstanding either what a hypervisor does or what a switch does, I'm not sure. But if you are asking whether you can boot your switch's firmware, then the answer is likely no, and if you're asking whether you can run a virtual environment that can operate as a (virtual) switch, then sure, e.g. Linux Mint as a guest can do that.

I understand what a hypervisor and switch do. I am asking whether I can create a virtual switch in VirtualBox to handle traffic between VMs. I have read about them in reference to Hyper-V. I wonder VirtualBox can create them too. This is just for experimentation and learning from doing.

So, as I said, the answer is yes, as long as you're fine with recreating the functionality with some guest operating system. But your virtual machines can communicate among each other, no problem.

I gave them bridged network connections so that they can ping each other. What else can VB do, and how?
